Financial services provider plans Irish mortgage expansion

Thu, 18 Jan 2007

Leeds Building Society has revealed that it is planning to expand the range of mortgage deals that it offers to its banking customers.

The financial services provider, which currently has 70 banking branches throughout the UK, started providing interest-only mortgages to the Irish population in September 2006.

And it has now unveiled plans to begin offering international mortgages for Spanish properties to Irish homebuyers.

This means that would-be international mortgage holders will be able to arrange mortgage deals for properties on the continent from an Irish base.

Kim Rebecchi, general manager of sales at Leeds Building Society, explained that positive response to its current mortgage offerings is the reason why it is increasing its Irish mortgage range.

"The feedback we have had so far is that a competitive product, combined with a fast and efficient service and a flexible approach to assessing the customers' ability to repay the loan is exactly what customers and intermediaries are looking for," she said.

The building society currently competes in the same market as rival financial services providers such as Nationwide Building Society and Yorkshire Building Society and offers savings products and credit cards as well as a host of mortgage deals.
