International mortgage customers could find beach home in Spain

International mortgage customers have a great chance to buy some premium beachside property in Spain at a discounted rate, it has been claimed.

According to Mercers, such homes have always been popular and thus more costly than other residences within the country, with some prime houses in Marbella still fetching €1 million-plus (£874,000).

However, those who look towards other areas, such as Murcia can find two-bedroom apartments within five minutes of beautiful Blue Flag beaches for less than a tenth of the cost.

Mercers founder Chris Mercer explained that recent figures show that 83 per cent of foreign visitors come to Spain for the sun and beach, which makes seaside property very popular among holiday home hunters.

"In the Bay of Mazarron alone we have three Blue Flag beaches - an acknowledgment of water quality, safety, services and environmental management - and the sands stretch for a total of 35km," he said.

"Throw in a modern 210-berth pleasure marina inaugurated in 2009 and plenty of waterfront restaurants and shops and it really is a desirable location; all the more incredible that we can offer apartments for less than €100,000 euros or £87,000."

Spain's house prices have been suffering as a result of a struggling economy, meaning cash-rich Brits and those with international mortgages have been able to pick up new properties at cost price in some cases.
