Patience required for Italy international mortgage applicants

Fri, 23 Dec 2011
People hoping to use an international mortgage to secure a move to Italy may need to be patient when doing so.

Kimberley Millhouse, senior move manager at Crown Relocations - a division of Crown Worldwide Group that has a team of almost 3,000 professionals - has advised those seeking property in the country that they will need to take their time when selecting an abode as many of the houses there are small.

The industry figure explained a lot of the apartments have few bedrooms, while garden space might not be as big as is often found in the UK.

Ms Millhouse stated: "Depending on the city you're moving to, you're likely to find housing in Italian cities to be rather small."

And it may be that securing an international mortgage is preferable to renting property in the nation, as the expert warned landlords often ask for three month's rent in advance to serve as a security deposit for the living spaces.

This money will then be returned - provided the abode is left in good condition - when the tenancy comes to an end.
