International mortgage customers hoping to take advantage of the fact that Brazil will host both the World Cup and Olympic Games over the next few years might want to look to Sao Paulo.

The city will hold an appeal for travellers long after the international sporting events have gone and should present investors with a steady stream of gap year travellers and backpackers, who could provide good rental income .

According to Lonely Planet, the city offers "incredible nightlife" that keeps visitors coming back for more.

Spokeswoman Heather Carswell explained that tourists are bound to find somewhere they like in Sao Paulo, thanks to the plethora of places to eat, drink and dance.

"Sao Paulo knows how to party and has a great variety of bars, nightclubs and live music venues to suit every taste," she said.

The expert added that a trip to Paranapiacaba, which is located 40km south-east of the city, should also not be missed.

"Founded by the British-owned Sao Paulo Railway Company, it has retained distinctly English traits, right down to a rough replica of Big Ben."

Recent data from STR Global show that Sao Paulo recorded the largest revenue per available room in the Americas in May, with growth of 38.8 per cent.
