The Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI) has claimed that its members' resilience is sending out a positive message for the industry.

Keynote speakers at the body's annual dinner in London made an effort to encourage proportional and responsible European regulation in the international mortgage market.

Experts including communities and local government secretary Eric Pickles and AMI director general Stephen Gray gave their thoughts on the market, with the overall theme being a positive outlook.

AMI director Robert Sinclair praised the efforts of the organisation's members, noting that they have proven themselves valuable to consumers while continuing to improve standards.

"They can be justly proud of their work delivering outstanding results for the vast majority of people in this country who want to own and improve their own home," he said.

The expert added that the association has been focusing on new legislation from both the Financial Services Authority and the European governing bodies.

In other news, the Financial Times recently noted that international mortgage customers might find it hard to get a home loan in France after lenders in the country tightened their criteria for overseas buyers .
