US mortgages might be wise move for British investors

Brits looking into international mortgages might be able to pick up a bargain property in the US.

With the dollar currently weak against the pound, now is a good time for anyone spending sterling in America.

According to Buy Association, this goes for property too, with the firm suggesting that a purchase in the States would be a "very profitable investment".

The firm did note that any such investment should be done as a long-term project as this is the timescale for it fully paying off.

"If you are investing in a property in the US - and there are many reasons to do so – you are looking at a medium to long-term investment which, if you are looking over those periods of time, could prove to be a very profitable investment," editor Paul Collins said.

The expert added that while the US property industry is still in a state of gradual decline, now could be a particularly good time to invest as a turnaround is surely not far off.

Meanwhile, the Joint Centre for Housing Studies recently reported that homeownership rates in the US fell below 67 per cent in 2010.
