Consider location before international mortgage application

Fri, 18 Nov 2011
Brits looking to apply for an international mortgage in order to begin a new life overseas would be wise to consider the specifics about their location choice beforehand.

This is because Anna Nicholas, journalist and author, has noted those hoping to relocate to Spain need to pick a region that is suitable to their individual needs.

The industry figure explained people may want to head to certain places for a number of reasons, be it to reside by the sea, in the mountains, in an up-and-coming town or tucked away in the countryside.

International mortgage applicants would therefore be wise to gear their move to their own family and work requirements.

Ms Nicholas - whose books include Donkeys on my Doorstep, Goats from a Small Island and Strictly Off the Record: On the Trail of World Records with Norris McWhirter - observed Malaga and Andalucia are often regarded as British zones, as are the Costa Brava and Alicante.

"However, for those who want to get away from predominantly British areas, Catalonia offers some idyllic mountain villages [and] Asturias and Cantabria are verdant," she explained.
