South Africa could be popular with international mortgage applicants

South Africa could prove a popular destination among international mortgage applicants who are keen to leave Britain in order to start a new life abroad.

This is because Tom Whale, account manager at Rightmove Overseas, has suggested the country is often favoured by expatriates who are eager to escape the dreary British weather in order to live in sunnier climes.

The industry figure revealed his company's website - which displays over 50,000 properties in more than 65 countries and is part of Rightmove PLC, launched in 2000 - receives more than 10,000 searches a month for dwellings in South Africa, adding: "By far the most popular region is the Western Cape, containing towns like Cape Town, Hout Bay and Stellenbosch."

Individuals looking to secure a property in one of these locations may therefore be wise to start researching their international mortgage options sooner rather than later.

Mr Whale pointed out now is a great time to buy a home in the nation because house prices, despite not tumbling as much as some other countries, are currently at their lowest point since late 2009.
