International mortgages are likely to play an important role in the efforts of Brits looking to enjoy the benefits to be had by moving to France.
According to the 2011 Quality of Life Index from uSwitch, which is part of Forward Internet Group, the country is the most desirable place to live in Europe - the third year in a row it has held such an honour.
The nation placed top of the pile, while the UK ranked in ninth position.
Making up the remainder of the top five were Spain, Denmark, Germany and Poland - meaning these could be popular destinations for anyone considering international mortgages.
Charlie Williams, business development manager at property developer Terresens, said: "In France there are plenty of options for second-homes in a variety of living environments whether in rural surroundings or ski locations."
The industry figure noted many people looking to move abroad would like to acquire a ski property.
