Spanish hotspots could tempt international mortgage applicants

Individuals considering their international mortgage options in the hope of securing a home abroad may wish to consider a move to some of Spain's property hotspots.

Mark Stucklin, head of Spanish Property Insight, has noted Alicante, Costa Blanca and the Costa del Sol are the most popular markets in the Iberian Peninsula nation among overseas buyers.

The industry figure stated: "There, if you focus on quality property in consolidated areas, then people can now be picky and fussy about what they go for. It is a buyer's market."

Those looking to use an international mortgage to purchase a dwelling in these areas may therefore find they have plenty of choice when it comes to the type and style of holiday home they are after.

However, Mr Stucklin explained that property built in third-rate areas will struggle, meaning buyers need to do plenty of research before investing in such accommodation .

His comments come after Chris Mercer of housing firm Mercers claimed changes to how foreign buyers obtain their fiscal identification number in Spain is unlikely to deter them from making purchases in the country.
